Founded in 1998, Knack Cordial Folk Group is a registered non-profit making organization specializes in performing authentic folk dances from Eastern European in Hong Kong.  Hungarian and Transylvanian dances are very much the repertoires of the Group.

In the past 20 years, the Group was the only local European folk dance performance Group in Hong Kong which had presented 3 times of Eastern European folk dance performances, which every time lasted for 3 hours, at the auditoriums of respective theatres in Hong Kong, namely the dance performance in 2004 at the theatre of Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre, the 10th Anniversary performance in 2007 at Sha Tin Town Hall auditorium and the 18th Anniversary performance in 2015 at Tuen Mun Town Hall Auditorium.  All these selling tickets’ performances were open to the public. The next and the 4th performance in 2017 will be the 20th Anniversary performance of the Group. The Consulate General of Hungary in Hong Kong & Macao in collaboration with our Group are proud to present a 3 hours’ Hungarian folk dance and singing performance “Csárdás – Hungarian Folklores and Others” in late 2017.

In the past two decades, the Group has actively participated in numerous local and some overseas performances as well as local open dance contests. The Group had been awarded more than 40 top prizes which includes many Gold Awards and a few times Best Performance Awards at the Hong Kong Open Dance Contests.  Major local performances participated by the Group include Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Parades (2002, 2003, 2007 and 2009) and Hong Kong Dance Expo (2002-2007, 2015). The Group had performed in Macao, Taiwan and United Kingdom.

The Group had been awarded a ‘Certificate of Merit’ by the Consulate General of Hungary in Hong Kong & Macao in November 2015 for its exceptional performance of Hungarian folk dances on the occasion of the Hungarian National Day Celebration on 15 October 2015, as well as for its 18 years of outstanding contribution towards promoting Hungarian dance and culture in Hong Kong.

Since early 2000, the Group has been working in close co-operation with performing dance groups from overseas. The founder, choreographer and leader of the Group, Mr Kenneth Tse had conducted Hungarian dance workshops or dance camps in Taiwan (2001, 2004, 2007, 2014 and 2015) and United Kingdom (2007 and 2015).  As a result, more than 40 dancers from Taiwan and UK had come to Hong Kong taking part in the 10th and 18th anniversary performances of the Group in 2007 and 2015.

The Group will work with Hungarian FolkEmbassy Folk Band (Hungary) to perform in Hong Kong in late 2017 and thereafter in Hungary and Romania in summer, 2018.
